The Event
Taupō hosts the very best professional and age group triathletes from all corners of the globe over the weekend of December 14-15 2024. This will be the first time the World Championship has been held in New Zealand and no better place than the home of Ironman New Zealand, where the best of New Zealand’s breath-taking scenery is showcased. Following the cancellation of the 2020 event due to COVID-19 we’re thrilled to be heading back to Taupo in 2024 for this event.
The Tour
For over 20 years, Tri Travel have been leading tours to Lake Taupo in New Zealand. Our intimate knowledge of the course, the local area and accommodation options will ensure nothing is left to chance for you. The 7-night tour provides a seamless travel solution for athletes and supporters, enabling you to fully focus on your race preparations.

Guests arrive into Auckland Airport on Monday 9 December with all guests will then be transferred to Taupo via private coach.

Taupo lakeside motel accommodation with lovely lake & mountain views offering a room type to suit every need – studios, family rooms, 2 and 3 bedroom units.
There is a very popular bar and restaurant on site called Jolly Good Fellows serving a great range of food and beverages that match its casual British Pub theme with outdoor seating to take in the lake views.
If you’d like a change of scenery, downtown Taupo is only a 10-minute walk away along the lakefront. There you’ll easily find food and wine to suit every taste and budget, from popular fast food restaurants, to relaxed cafe dining as well as popular foodie hotspots.
It is perfectly located for the Tri Travel Taupo World Championship Tour, across the road from the race start and a very short walk to transition.
Lakeland Resort Taupo
Locally owned and operated the resort is situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Taupo, New Zealand’s largest lake and world renowned for its trout fishing and scenery.
Set amidst 2.8 acres of landscaped grounds, complete with 64 well-equipped studio units, with 42″ plasma flatscreen TV, tennis court, outdoor seasonal swimming pool, guest laundry facilities, ample off-street parking, 2 conference rooms and The Lakeland Bar and Brasserie.
Lakeland Resort offers relaxing and comfortable accommodation, superb conference and function facilities with The Lakeland Bar & Brasserie serving divine cuisine – open for breakfast and dinner.
Lakeland Resort is situated approximately 2.5km from the race swim start and transition.
Event Location
The 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships takes place in Taupo, situated four hours from New Zealand’s capital city of Auckland, on the North Island.
Getting There
Tour guests will fly into the international airport in Auckland before making the four hour drive to Taupo. Tri Travel arrange transfers via luxury coaches for our tour members and their bikes and luggage.
Location Highlights
It is distinguished by its lakefront setting and outdoor sports ranging from fishing to jet-boating. The vast waters of Lake Taupo, a volcanic caldera, drain into the Huka Falls, dramatic, crystal-blue cascades reachable by hiking and biking trails. Surrounding Taupo are hot springs like those filling the Craters of the Moon reserve.
You can enjoy fishing charters, scenic boat tours, waterskiing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and the extraordinary Maori rock carvings at Mine Bay. The Great Lake Trail which is part of Nga Haerenga – The New Zealand Cycle Trail runs around the shoreline.
