Tri Travel are proud to provide travel packages to the ultimate bucket list event – the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Nearly 10,000 entrants apply for one of only 2,000 competitor slots and with entries being so limited, we will be offering a 3-night or 5-night tour package for athletes and spectators, staying close to the transition and finish area, with an optional 2-night extension to Wine Country after the 5-night package.

The Event
The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon replicates one of the most infamous prison escapes of all time and triathletes from around the globe descend upon San Francisco to challenge themselves in the water between the iconic federal prison and on the streets of the city.
The event starts on Sunday 9th June in the waters off the coast of Alcatraz Island with athletes jumping off the deck of the City Cruises San Francisco Belle and swimming 1.5m/2.4km through the choppy waters of San Francisco Bay back to Marina Green. From there the 18m/29km bike ride heads West to Crissy Field, through the Presidio and up the hill to the Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum and back through the Golden Gate Park. The 8m/12.9km run goes under the Golden Gate Bridge, along trails on the Presidio Headlands and coastal bluffs to Baker Beach. Deep sand and the notorious and dreaded 400 step sand ladder come next, before the route returns to sea level and the finish line at Marina Green.

- 5-night tour only: Unique City Tour of San Francisco, in VW combi buses, on the afternoon of 10th June – visits include the main sites of the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Lombard Street, the Palace of Fine Arts, North Beach, Union Square, Haight-Ashbury and Alamo Square/Painted Ladies Houses
Guaranteed Entry to this prestigious event can be added (min/max of one per room) to this travel package that covers all your race needs including accommodation and all your logistical and transport requirements.
Triathlon Bike rental can also be added to remove the need and cost to transport your own bike to the event.
Private Transfers can also be arranged from San Francisco and Oakland Airports.

The 4* Kimpton Alton Hotel is located in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, just a few blocks walking distance from the transition and finish area at Marina Green. The hotel offers a luxurious, yet unpretentious atmosphere. There are curated playlists, a light and airy lobby lounge with the furnishing design and decor rooted in the 1970’s San Francisco counterculture movement. Amenities at this hotel include in-room record players and yoga mats as well as an evening wine hour.
The comfortable and spacious rooms have a bohemian chic decor with warm, relaxing colours and sculptural light fittings. The Frette linens and cozy bedding offer a comfy place to lay your head after a busy day in San Francisco and the ensuite spa bathroom with Atelier Bloem bath amenities and plush hooded “Rocky” robes provide further comforts.

Swim: 8:15am(1 hr after start) – those not making the 1-hr swim cut-off will be picked up and brought to shore where they may continue the race.
Bike: 10:15am (3 hrs after start)*
Run: 12:45pm(5.5 hrs after start)
*There are no aid stations or bottle exchange on the bike course
