We recommend flying into Cape Town International Airport (CPT), the primary gateway to Cape Town and one of Africa’s busiest international airports. The airport is located approximately 20 km from the city centre and is well served by international and domestic carriers. Weather
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon takes place in May, which marks the transition from autumn to winter in Cape Town. During race week, daytime temperatures typically range between 15°C and 22°C, while mornings and evenings can be noticeably cooler.
Weather conditions can vary, with mild temperatures, occasional rainfall, and coastal breezes. We recommend that runners and tour members pack layers, including comfortable running gear, a light waterproof jacket, and warmer clothing for early starts and evenings. With generally favourable running conditions, May provides an excellent climate for both marathon participants and spectators alike.

Today team members will arrive at their accommodation, Southern Sun Waterfront, at varying times. Our tour leaders will be on hand to assist with check in.
Arrivals Information
Arriving into Cape Town International Airport (CPT), guests can make their way to Southern Sun Waterfront via Uber, Bolt, taxi or pre-arranged private transfer.
The journey from Cape Town International Airport to your accommodation typically takes 20 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Once you arrive at Southern Sun Waterfront and have checked in, the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure to relax, explore the area or settle into your accommodation.
6:30pm Team Welcome Function
Meeting at 6:30pm, you will join our tour leaders and fellow travellers for a welcome drink and team briefing.
This is an opportunity to meet the group, receive your official tour merchandise and race information, and review the itinerary for the coming days. Our team will also answer any questions about race logistics, transportation and spectator viewing locations.
Following the function, you will have free time for dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants located along the Waterfront.
FRIDAY 21 MAY, 2027
7:30am Team Shake-Out Run
This morning the team will meet in the foyer of Southern Sun at 7:30am for a relaxed shake-out run along the Waterfront.
Your tour leaders will guide the group along the coastline, showcasing some of Cape Town’s spectacular scenery while discussing the marathon weekend ahead. The run will be approximately 25 minutes at an easy pace, although participants are welcome to run a shorter or longer distance according to their individual training plans
10:00am Race Registration & Expo Visit
After breakfast, we will visit the Cape Town Marathon Expo for race registration and bib collection.
We will meet at 9:45am before travelling together to the Expo venue.
At the Expo, runners will collect their race bibs and event materials, browse exhibitor stands and enjoy the excitement of race weekend. Our tour leaders will be available throughout the visit to assist with any questions.
We expect to return to The Southern Sun around lunchtime. Guests may alternatively choose to remain at the Expo longer and make their own way back to the accommodation.
SATURDAY 22 MAY, 2027
Rest Day & Final Preparations
Today is designed to be a relaxed day focused on rest, hydration and final marathon preparations.
Morning at Leisure
Enjoy breakfast at Southern Sun before taking advantage of a free morning to relax or explore the local area. We recommend keeping activity to a minimum and staying off your feet where possible.
Those wishing to stretch their legs may enjoy a short walk along the waterfront or spend some time at one of the local cafés overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
5:00pm Final Team Briefing
This afternoon we will meet at 5:00pm for a short team briefing.
During this session we will review race morning procedures, transportation arrangements, baggage procedures, supporter viewing locations and post-race meeting points.
Our team will be available to answer any final questions and ensure everyone is fully prepared for marathon day.
Following the meeting, the remainder of the evening is free for dinner and race preparation. We recommend an early night ahead of tomorrow’s event.
SUNDAY 23 MAY, 2027
Cape Town Marathon Day
5:30am Meet in Foyer
Today is race day.
We will meet in the foyer at 5:30am before travelling together to the marathon start area. Tour leaders will accompany runners and assist with pre-race procedures.
Spectators will receive detailed viewing instructions and guidance on the best locations along the course to support their runners throughout the day.
The Cape Town Marathon course showcases many of the city’s most iconic landmarks and breathtaking scenery, creating one of the most memorable marathon experiences in the world.
Following the race, runners and supporters will gather at the designated post-race meeting point before returning to Southern Sun for a well-earned rest.
6:30pm Team Celebration
This evening we will come together to celebrate everyone’s achievements at our official post-race function.
Join fellow runners and supporters as we share stories from race day, reflect on an incredible weekend and raise a glass to completing the Cape Town Marathon 2027.
MONDAY 24 MAY, 2027
Departures
Today many guests will return home or continue on to other South African or international travel adventures.
