We have witnessed the domination of the race by Cameron Brown, seen the toughest of conditions, the best of conditions and we know Taupo like no other! And in 2026 the Tri Travel NZ Tour is back!

The Event
The world’s longest-running ultra-distance race (outside of Hawaii) with a proud and rich history taking place in the beautiful town of Taupo. The race itself showcases the best of New Zealand’s natural wonderland, and more than 2,000 volunteers and thousands of supporters line the streets to cheer you on. You will be welcomed with open arms and will leave enriched with the locals’ pure Kiwi spirit.

This is an ideal location for our athletes, as it is a short stroll to the New Zealand starting line on Lake Taupo. Ascot Motor Inn Taupo is a 15-unit 4 Star Plus self-catering complex within easy walking distance to the beautiful foreshore of Lake Taupo and Town Centre.
Beechtree Motel, Taupo
The Beechtree Motel is one of the newest and most refreshingly stylish accommodation providers in Taupo offering high levels of service and comfort. The self-contained boutique accommodation has 39 rooms, consisting of luxury studios, and two and three-bedroom suites – all with air conditioning.
Located next door to the Ascot Motor Inn, The Beechtree Motel is also conveniently located near the race precinct.
Event Location
The event takes place in Taupo, situated four hours from New Zealand’s capital city of Auckland, on the North Island.
Location Highlights
It is distinguished by its lakefront setting and outdoor sports ranging from fishing to jet-boating. The vast waters of Lake Taupo, a volcanic caldera, drain into the Huka Falls, dramatic, crystal-blue cascades reachable by hiking and biking trails. Surrounding Taupo are hot springs like those filling the Craters of the Moon reserve.
You can enjoy fishing charters, scenic boat tours, waterskiing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and the extraordinary Maori rock carvings at Mine Bay. The Great Lake Trail which is part of Nga Haerenga – The New Zealand Cycle Trail runs around the shoreline.
Race day action as athletes from all over the world test their limits across a 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike and 42.2km Run in New Zealand.
